BEHAVIOURAL ASSESSMENTS

Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI)

The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI) is the world’s best-selling tool for helping people understand how different conflict-handling styles affect interpersonal and group dynamics—and for empowering them to choose the appropriate style for any situation. The TKI assesses an individual’s typical behavior in conflict situations and describes it along two dimensions, assertiveness and cooperativeness, measuring five different ways—modes—for approaching conflict: competing, collaborating, compromising, accommodating, and avoiding. Everyone has all these modes available at any time in any situation, but people tend to use one or more modes too much and other modes too little—out of habit.

We use the TKI to provide a unique, individual conflict profile, that enables clients to become more aware of their habits—and then apply or adapt them accordingly. The use of detailed information from this assessment helps to demonstrate how the individual client can effectively leverage the five different conflict-handling modes, or styles.

Intro to Conflict

The TKI measures five different ways—modes—for approaching conflict: competing, collaborating, compromising, accommodating, and avoiding. Everyone has all these modes available at any time in any situation, but people tend to use one or more modes too much and other modes too little—out of habit. The TKI provides a unique conflict profile for each person, so he or she can become more aware of their habits—and then change them.
